When we study human beings, we have to recognize that human beings are physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual beings. This is what whole means. You cannot just look at one or two parts. And only treat the liver or kidneys or lungs.

When I recognize that, it becomes very clear to me that human beings look a lot more like a tree than a car. A tree is a living organism. It makes sense for us to look more like a living organism than a car.

Our biggest mistake in conventional medicine was to see human beings as another machine for which we treat individual parts. So if you have eczema you see a dermatologist and if you have depression you see a psychologist. As if they were separate.

Treating each ailment as individual parts is the biggest disservice to the patient. It’s so important to remember that just as we start from one cell, trees start from one seed that develops into a trunk and grows many branches. So a 50 year human being is more like a 50 year old tree. With many branches that existed in the past that don’t exist anymore. And new branches growing all the time. As we grow older, new branches will continue to be added.

Like any tree, if you cut one branch, all the energy that was going to that branch will be diverted to the other branches to make them grow faster and bigger. And if you cut a second branch that energy will go to another branch as well. This is what suppression really means in conventional medicine.

So if we are like a tree, then every symptom at any level is like the top of the branch. So patients come and show me 50 different branches at physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. My job is to recognize that those symptoms are just the top of the iceberg. I know if I take a branch and go very deep into that branch, it’s going to lead me to the trunk. However, I never know when I’m at the trunk level unless I do the same thing with the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth branches. I need to make sure that everything leads to the same.
